We offer musical theater courses for performers at different points in their careers in Los Angeles. Mr. Alexander offers a clear and defined method actors can employ to make creative, unique choices that will enable them to build and sustain their performances, regardless of the medium or kind of material. Mr. Alexander shows actors how to utilize the tools they have learned in previous training and organize it into a reliable and inspiring methodology. This is a hard core, no nonsense master class in technique for the actor. It can be applied to monologues, scene work, plays, on-camera work, songs, classical text – any performance material. This work will guide you in how
–to assess and master your process of making choices
–to access your emotional resources and break through emotional blocks
–to use your entire instrument, body and voice, in your work
–to enhance the creativity and specificity of your work
Best known for his role as George Costanza in the television series SEINFELD, Jason Alexander won the Tony for Jerome Robbins’ Broadway in 1989 for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. He also starred on Broadway in the original productions of Merrily We Roll Along, The Rink, and Broadway Bound. Additional Broadway credits include Fish in the Dark and Accomplice. He starred as Max Bialystock in the Los Angeles production of The Producers. His dozens of film and TV credits include Pretty Woman, Shallow Hal, Young Sheldon, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Simpsons and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Confidence with your sound allows you to give unselfconscious, committed performances. In this course, which will feature vocal training as part of the work, Two-Time Tony Nominee Carmen Cusack will work with students both individually and in group sessions to achieve the synthesis of the individual’s voice with their work. Carmen will offer basic techniques and warm ups designed to help you use your voice in a healthy way and ensure your authentic voice is coming through in each character. Her work will help you ensure that your voice is like an extension of your speaking voice, lifted and elevated.

Broadway veteran Vicki Lewis (CHICAGO, ANASTASIA, DAMN YANKEES) teaches an intensive, professional-musical-theatre course on Tuesday evenings. Students will work on audition and performance material of their own or the instructor’s choosing. Working with Vicki and an accompanist, the performer will work each week on telling the story of their song, performing the material and honing their skills.

What: Tony-Award Winning Broadway Legend John Rubinstein (Original Pippin, Children of a Lesser God, Wicked, Hurlyburly, M. Butterfly, Love Letters, Getting Away With Murder, Ragtime and so many more) teaches Musical Theatre Audition,. From material selection to presentation, John will impart to you knowledge from his 50 years of experience on the Broadway stage.
The class meets weekly. Students should have a solid foundation in Musical Theatre. This is a demanding class, and students should feel comfortable in their skillset before signing up.

What: This six-week intensive class will focus on storytelling skills with music and bringing the actor’s own truth forward. You will work on music and lyric interpretation, actor personalization and connection with the material. The course will conclude with a showcase for an invited audience.
Instructor: Mark D. Kaufmann has directed numerous musical productions for the York Theatre in New York City, and 42nd St. Moon in San Francisco among other companies. He teaches musical performance, directing, and acting at theater conferences around the country. He has a BS in Speech/Theater from Northwestern University, studied at the Wharton school, studied dance with Fred Kelly (Gene’s brother), and acting with Stella Adler and the HB school in New York.

This class will navigate how to break down a song from the moment the music starts until the final downbeat. We will explore different ways to interpret, color, and communicate the story of the song using the music and lyrics as an intial roadmap. We also find the best ways to personalize the songs and make them stand alone pieces, unique to you and your own experiences. Welcome to a new way of approaching music and a new way to connect to your songs!
